Tripura’s first professionally organised women’s football league kicked off at the Maharaja Bir Bikram stadium, with fourteen district teams competing across six weeks.
The league — backed by the state sports council and a local shoe manufacturer — offers the region’s first cash prize structure for women’s football, along with professional coaching and physiotherapy support.
“For years our girls played on borrowed grounds,” said league organiser and former captain Kabita Jamatia. “Now they have a calendar, a jersey, and a future.” Matches will be streamed live on the state’s sports YouTube channel.
