A team of four undergraduates from Tripura University’s computer science department has developed an AI model that predicts Gomati river floods up to 72 hours in advance.
The system fuses satellite rainfall data with real-time gauge readings from Udaipur and Amarpur. In dry runs against the 2024 and 2025 flood seasons, it issued warnings an average of nine hours earlier than the existing manual methods.
The team will present the model at the national student innovation summit in Guwahati next month, and the state water resources department has shown interest in a pilot deployment before next monsoon.
