The border haat at Srinagar in South Tripura has resumed daily operations after a three-month pause, following fresh bilateral protocols signed between India and Bangladesh.
Traders from both sides now exchange 42 approved items including bamboo products, traditional fabrics, spices and fish. “The haat is our livelihood — in a single day we sell what a week used to bring,” said Rubi Debbarma, a handloom vendor from the Indian side.
Officials say similar haats at Kamalasagar and Hmunpui will follow, easing the movement of goods across the frontier while strengthening people-to-people ties.
