STATE: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act are going to come into effect from July 1, 2024. The Indian Penal Code or IPC Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act will be repealed from that day. In order to increase awareness among the general public about these newly added criminal laws, awareness camps are being organized at various levels so that the law-making bodies can be more aware of the laws. On this occasion, a workshop for journalists was organized at the auditorium of Tripura Judicial Academy on Friday. The workshop was organized by PIB Agartala in association with Tripura State Legal Services Authority, Tripura Judicial Academy, Tripura Government Law College and National Law University Tripura.
Advocate General Siddhartha Shankar Dey spoke at the workshop that through these laws, the rights of ordinary citizens will be strengthened. After 75 years of
Independence, the people of India made laws for their own interests. He expressed hope that these laws would provide justice to every citizen of the country. Speaking on the occasion, state Director General of Police (Intelligence) Anurag Thakur elaborated on the three criminal laws, framing of laws in the police system, sentencing the accused, how they would help in giving justice to the innocent and what were the loopholes in the previous laws.
National Law University Tripura Vice-Chancellor Prof Yogesh Pratap Singh, Registrar Prof Dr Nachiketa Mittal and Tripura State Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion. The workshop was attended by journalists and students of Tripura Judicial Academy, Tripura Government Law College and National Law University. PIB Deputy Director Shubhashish Chanda delivered the welcome speech.
