Weekend Tourist Hub will be inaugurated in front of the iconic Ujjayanta Palace on July 30, Sunday. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the Weekend Tourist Hub.

Addressing a Press Conference on Friday, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed, “It has been decided to start this ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ to establish Tripura as the center of excellence and a priority area for tourism on the tourism map of the country as well as abroad”.

The Weekend Tourist Hub will remain open every week on Saturdays and Sundays during summer from 4 pm to 9 pm and during winter from 3 pm to 8 pm. “No Vehicle Zone” has been declared for the area starting from Sherowali Sweets to Rabindra Bhawan and Jackson Gate Traffic Point during the ‘Weekend Tourist Hub.’ A press release has been published on the same recently by the West Tripura District Magistrate.

Tourism Minister claimed that residents of Agartala city will find the Weekend Tourist Hub as a new spot of fun and entertainment. Quite a few facilities will be provided to attract tourists to the Weekend Tourist Hub, such as decorated mobile food stalls, paddle boating for tourist entertainment over Radhasagar Lake of Ujjayanta Palace, a Photo Counter at the State Museum garden area to wear traditional garments, and accessories and get photographs clicked, keeping Ujjayanta Palace as well as the State Museum open for 365 days and light and sound show in the evening, etc.

Moreover, cultural programs will be organized on those two days to entertain tourists. For the safety of tourists, there will be enough male and female police staff, observation from the watch tower and CCTVs installed, and police patrolling in civil dress.

With the commencement of the Weekend Tourist Hub, there will be revenue income for the state government, as well as a source of income for the jobless.

The Tourism Minister also informed that the State Government is working with planning to make tourism an alternate source of economy of the state. The tourism department has taken up various initiatives intending to present Tripura as a World-Class tourist destination for tourists of the country and abroad.

The state has already roped in cricket icon Saurav Ganguly as its Brand Ambassador for tourism.

Significantly, The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has already approved Rs 58.61 crore for the facelift of Chhabimura, unique rock work in the Gomati district. Thus, Tripura would soon find its position on the tourism map of the globe, according to Chowdhury.

According to Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, “The Centre has agreed to fund Rs 70 crore each for the development of tourism destinations in Agartala and Unakoti under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme.”
