The Government of Tripura has decided to allocate Government residence to the wife of the state’s first Chief Minister Late Sachindra Lal Singh.
It has been learned that Lakshmi Singh, wife of the first Chief Minister of the state, the late Sachindra Lal Singh, has written a heartfelt letter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha seeking an accommodation to live in the state.
However, the plea of 91-year-old Mrs. Singh came to the notice of the Chief Minister, and he considered the matter with sincerity.
The state cabinet meeting held a wide-ranging discussion to commemorate the contribution of veteran freedom fighter and former state chief minister Late Sachindra Lal Singh and decided to allocate a type-four Government residence in Agartala as per his wife’s plea.
Mrs. Singh can take this benefit for the rest of her life. Currently, she lives in Faridabad, Haryana.
Unquestionably, the late Sachindra Lal Singh contributed to the development of modern Tripura. From 1 July 1963 to 1 November 1971, Sachindra Lal Singh presided as the state’s chief minister.
In addition to serving as MP for West Tripura in the Lok Sabha, he was a liberation fighter. For his exceptional contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, the Government of Bangladesh honored him posthumously with the “Friends of Liberation War” in 2012.
Former CM Sachindra Lal Singh passed away on 9th December 2000 in New Delhi. Smt. Lakshmi Singh, his wife, does not own a residence in Agartala. The provision of such benefits to the spouse of the former Chief Minister can be said to be a precedent in the state.
