Tripura Sees Tourism Boom, Footfall Hits 7.60 Lakh in 2024

Tripura’s tourism sector has recorded remarkable growth, with visitor numbers rising from 5.29 lakh in 2018 to 7.60 lakh in 2024, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for new tourism facilities at Kamalasagar and the Chaturdash Devta Temple within the Kasba Kalibari Complex in Sepahijala district, Chowdhury reiterated the government’s vision to make Tripura a premier global tourism destination under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s leadership.

Recent achievements include two major Asian Development Bank-funded projects, an ₹18-crore development plan for the Kasbeswari Maa Temple and a ₹13-crore upgrade for the Chaturdash Devta Temple. Chowdhury highlighted that previous administrations failed to fully utilize the Kasbeswari Maa Temple’s potential. At the same time, the current government has placed the Tripura Sundari Temple on the global map through the PRASAD scheme.

Plans are underway to further enhance temple complexes across the state, aiming to attract more visitors and create local jobs. A replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas is also under construction in Banduar, Gomati district, with completion targeted within 18 months to boost pilgrimage tourism.

Chowdhury emphasized tourism’s vital role in boosting Tripura’s economy, contributing to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), and benefiting local businesses as domestic and international arrivals continue to climb.
