Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, announced on Monday that the state will distribute agricultural equipment worth ₹50 crore during the ongoing Kharif season to help tackle production shortfalls.
During a meeting focused on seasonal production goals, Nath revealed that 47,500 hectares are targeted for cultivation this season, with 25,000 hectares allocated specifically for hybrid paddy. “We will provide 1,500 power tillers to farmers. For the first time, subsidies will also be extended to betel leaf cultivators,” he stated.
To ensure transparency and efficiency in seed distribution and farmer selection, elected representatives from block levels—including standing committee members—were brought into the process. “This allows local leaders to stay informed about available agriculture and horticulture schemes,” Nath explained.
The Minister also unveiled a reward scheme for progressive farmers, with incentives starting at ₹10,000 at the block level and increasing at district and state levels.
Emphasizing the state’s goal of boosting yield by two metric tons per hectare, Nath concluded, “This initiative will help close the gap between production and demand. Distributing quality agricultural machinery worth ₹50 crore is a major step toward achieving that.”
