Both India and Bangladesh are expected to be connected through the Agartala-Akhaura railway link soon. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared some final stage pictures of the much-anticipated Tripura’s first international railway station at Nishchintapur this Wednesday night.
By sharing these pictures, CM Saha tweeted “Once landlocked, Tripura is now scaling new heights in rail connectivity following the HIRA model of Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi. The state is now getting ready to have an international rail link with Bangladesh, with the Agartala- Akhaura project nearing completion.”
He further stated, “Nischintapur railway station is set to get its final shape, with the special attention of Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw.”
The much-awaited India-Bangladesh Railway project will have a 15.6 km-long railway link that connects Gangasagar in Bangladesh to Nischintapur in India (10.6 km) and from Nischintapur to Agartala railway station (5.46km).
Once the project is complete, the new railway line between India and Bangladesh will also reduce the travel time between Agartala to Kolkata significantly. Goods carrying trains from various parts of India can reach the NE region via Bangladesh with much lesser transportation cost.
A few days earlier, Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury made a visit to the working side of the Agartala-Akhaura Railway link project.
