STATE: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated the 3rd International Buyer and Seller Meet of Agarwood Products in Agartala.

Chief Minister, in his inaugural address, said that for the promotion and development of the agar industry, the State Government is working on various schemes. As a result, there is a huge potential for the expansion of agar-based business and trade in the state. Such conferences will play an important role in the development of the field.

The Chief Minister also said that there is a lot of potential for setting up agar-based industries in the state. Presently, about 50,000 farmers in the state are involved in agar cultivation. Additionally, various businesspersons and officials are directly associated with agar-based industries. So, the state government is working earnestly to take Agarkshetra forward.

The present state government has formulated the Agar Wood Policy for the convenience of traders, including agar growers. The implementation of this policy has already started. A tie-up with the Central Skill Development Council has been made for upskilling the Agar farmers of the state. Moreover, the state government has also requested the central government to set up an agarwood board in the state, CM added.

Notably, Chief Secretary JK Sinha said that currently, there is an industry-friendly environment in the state. As a result, entrepreneurs have shown interest in setting up various industries, including agar in Tripura. Along with rubber and bamboo, this sector will also play an important role in the state’s economic development.

Further, 120 representatives attended the third international Agar-based buyer-seller conference, and seven of them were foreign representatives. Moreover, representatives of various reputed organizations of the country and entrepreneurs have joined the conference.
