Agartala, July 26 — In a significant move to uplift the farming community, the BJP-led Tripura government has kicked off the latest phase of paddy procurement under the Minimum Support Price (MSP), KMS 2025–26 (2nd Crop/Rabi 2024–25) scheme. The initiative is a joint effort between the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, designed to reinforce rural livelihoods and stabilize farmer incomes across the state.
The procurement drive was officially launched on Saturday by Minister Sushanta Chowdhury at Battala, under the Satchand Panchayat in South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision. The first round of procurement began from Brajendranagar, a key grain-producing area of Sabroom that suffered heavy damage during last year’s floods. Chowdhury emphasized that this was a deliberate effort to assist flood-affected and financially distressed farmers, showcasing the state’s strong “farmer-first” policy.
This season, the government aims to procure 30,000 metric tons of paddy at a revised MSP of ₹23 per kg, a significant hike from the earlier rate of ₹17.50. Procurement will take place through 31 designated centres across Tripura.
“Our government has always stood with farmers,” said Chowdhury. “Since 2018, we have procured over 2.25 lakh metric tons of paddy from around 1.17 lakh farmers, transferring nearly ₹446 crore directly into their accounts. This is not just procurement—this is economic empowerment.”
He further stated that fair pricing not only ensures income security for farmers but also enhances rural economic stability and contributes to agricultural sustainability in the long run.
The government’s initiative is part of its broader commitment to doubling farmer incomes, a key electoral promise. It is expected to have a far-reaching impact on rural prosperity in Tripura.
