AGRARTALA: The state government released a statement on Friday stating that the death toll from the four days of nonstop rain in Tripura has now reached 24. Four more people died on Friday.
All four drawings were in the Gomati district, according to the report. A minimum of fifteen individuals lost their lives after their mud dwellings collapsed due to heavy rainfall in various parts of the Gomati and South Tripura districts, and five people were swept away by floodwaters earlier.
It further stated that two more persons were reported missing and two more had suffered serious injuries in the landslide.
Tripura saw an extraordinary flood, and while the floodwaters subsided in most regions, the state administration was forced to open up to 558 relief camps to house over 1.28 lakh people.
The districts of Gomati, South Tripura, Unakoti, and West Tripura have all been badly impacted. With the exception of Gomati at Sonamura, all river water levels are currently below the danger limit, the statement noted. It further stated that preliminary estimates showed losses and damages of Rs 5000 Cr have been incurred thus far.
The NDRF crew is continuously working on rescue operations in Gomati and South Tripura, and helicopters have delivered over 11,000 food packs and flown sorties for relief efforts in vulnerable marooned areas. IMD predicts that throughout the next 24 hours, mild to moderate rainfall will persist in various areas of the State.
