In the forthcoming Assembly Election in Tripura, 259 candidates will be contesting this time. This picture came out after the withdrawal of nomination papers was over. Today was the last day for the withdrawal of nomination papers. While a total of 32 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Kiran Gitte, gave this information in a press conference this evening.
CEO Kiran Gitte stated that till January 30, 310 candidates had submitted their nomination papers. During the scrutiny, the nomination papers from 19 candidates were canceled. There were 291 candidates left after the process of scrutiny. Among them, 259 candidates are in the final contest, and 32 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. The Chief Election Officer said that 297 candidates contested in the 2018 assembly elections.
Among the total 259 candidates who are contesting in this election are: from Bharatiya Janata Party 55, All India Trinamool Congress 28, CPI (M) 43, CPI 1, Indian National Congress 13, Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) 6, Tipra Motha Party 42, CPI( ML)L-1, AIFB 1, TPP 2, TSP 1, RSP 1, and other unrecognized parties have 7 candidates. In addition, there are also 58 independent candidates.
On the other hand, 10 assembly Constituencies have the maximum number of candidates with 6 candidates each. These are 3-Bamutia, 6-Agartala, 8-Town Bordowali, 23-Dhanpur, 42-Amarpur, 46-Surma (SC), 47- Ambasa (ST), 49-Chamanu (ST), 56-Dharmanagar and 60- Kanchanpur (ST). Direct competition is in 3 Assembly Constituencies. These are 4-Barjala (SC), 40-Sabroom, and 57-Yuvrajnagar.
He also said that due to the increase in the number of voters, the number of polling stations in the state has increased by 9. Earlier the number of polling stations in the state was 3328 now this number has increased to 3337.
