The Election Commission completed its first phase of election procedures of Postal Ballot and door-to-door vote collections. About a total of 8,500 above 80 years aged, voters along with PwDs exercised their vote across the State.

As per the schedule of the Election Commission of India, the election-engaged employees visited the elector’s door to door to take the vote from February 9 to 11.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte, more than 56 thousand poll employees, including security personnel and drivers of election vehicles have applied and cast their vote through Postal Ballot. On February 8, it had been started and concluded on Sunday.

CEO said Before Assembly Election on February 16 three types of protocols have to be followed. He said that the 72-hour protocol would start on February 13. According to the protocol, checking will start from February 13 at the places where people are expected would be present such as hotels, guesthouses, dharamshala, weddings, etc., because any person who is not a voter cannot stay in the respective constituency before 48 hours of the election.

On the other hand, India-Bangladesh International Border and also the interstate border with Assam and Mizoram will be sealed from Monday.

CEO Gitte further stated that on February 14, 48 hours before the election from that day, restrictions have been applied on the movement of 5 people together. Legal action will be taken this time under section 135A (C) Representation of the People Act of 1951 if anyone intimidates, threaten, or prevent a voter from going to a polling station.
