STATE: On September 9, in the state, the third National Lok Adalat of this year is scheduled. In addition to the Tripura High Court, Lok Adalats will be held on a state holiday at all district and sub-divisional court locations around the state.
There will be 71 Lok Adalat benches that will hear approximately 15,271 cases for disposition. It covers approximately 7,467 pre-litigation dispute-related matters. Out of them, there are approximately 621 cases involving delinquent telecom company bills and 6,846 cases involving bank loan payback.
Besides, approximately 7,804 cases pending in the courts will be taken up for settlement. These include Motor Accident Compensation Cases, Consumer Court Cases, Arbitrable Criminal Disputes Cases (including MV Act Cases, TP Act Cases, TG Act Cases, Excise Cases, etc.), Matrimonial Dispute Cases, Check Bounce (NI Act) Cases, other civil cases and employment cases.
On the occasion of the National Lok Adalat, a bench will convene in the Tripura High Court. A total of 65 cases will be heard by this bench for resolution. The Agartala court’s premises can accommodate a maximum of 16 benches. Both parties involved in the case have already received notifications.
The court will have a help desk to help smart citizens. Paralegal volunteers will assist people who have been notified at the court premises. Tripura State Legal Service Authority Member Secretary Sabyashachi Dutta Purakayastha, in a press release, requested all concerned to take advantage of case settlement quickly and without legal expenses.
Lok Adalat means People’s Court. It is a forum where disputes/cases pending in the Court of Laws or at pre-litigation stages are settled/compromised amicably.
