STATE: GBP Hospital holds a special reputation among the North Eastern states of the country. During the Liberation War of 1971, this hospital played a crucial role. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha mentioned this in his inaugural and chief guest address at the 64th foundation anniversary function of GBP Hospital in Agartala on Monday. The Chief Minister noted that there is a noticeable difference between the GBP hospital of the past and the present time, emphasizing the introduction of super specialty departments and new technology.
The Chief Minister shared his past experience of working at GBP Hospital and highlighted the need for the introduction of super specialty departments to meet the current medical requirements. Before GBP Hospital, VM (now IGM) Hospital was the sole reliance for medical services in Agartala. However, due to patient pressure, the need for another hospital arose, leading to the establishment of GBP Hospital in 1961.
On the occasion of the 64th foundation day, an MoU was signed between the state government and ONGC for the construction of a new special specialty ward at GBP Hospital. The MoU was exchanged during the inaugural function between Chief Secretary JK Sinha and ONGC’s Asset Manager and Regional Officer Krishna Kumar. ONGC will invest Rs 34 crore 46 lakh in the construction of this 20-bed specialty ward for the treatment of infectious patients.
Currently, there is an increasing interest from investors looking to invest in health services in the state. The Chief Minister mentioned in his speech that the students of the state who are studying in other states are also considering returning as super specialists. He emphasized that all medical facilities are currently available in the state.
