STATE : A shuttle service between Agartala Land Ports and Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has been introduced by the Land Ports Authority of India, Agartala, for the convenience of travelers of Bangladesh.

The service was introduced on Friday during the Land Ports Authority of India, Agartala’s 11th Foundation Day ceremony.

The Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, Airport Director, and Asstt. High Commission of Bangladesh High Commission, MLA Surajit Dutta, flagged off the shuttle service.

Mayor, on his Social Media post, said, In the past ten years, the port has implemented several services aimed at improving and fortifying the communication infrastructure between two countries as well as making travel easier for Bangladeshi passengers. Consequently, throughout the past ten years, there has been a significant shift in the annual passenger traffic data.

The Mayor further said that ten years ago, annually, 30,000 to 40,000 citizens of both countries used to travel through this port. Today, after 10 years, that figure has increased to 30,000 to 40,000 passengers a month benefiting from using the port. With the increase in passenger traffic and import and export trade, the quality of life of people working in various fields associated with the port has improved.

There are currently Eleven Land ports operational in India at Attari, Agartala, Dawki, Petrapole, Raxaul, Rupaidiha, Jogbani, Moreh, Sutarkandi, Srimantapur and PTB at Dera Baba Nanak.

On the other hand, Land port Agartala has the potential to be the gateway of India’s corridor with South-East Asia and plays a significant role in strengthening the India-Bangladesh relationship.
