STATE: The Department of Finance and Statistics has an important role to play in the collection and dissemination of data. Planning and implementation is not possible without data. Minister of Statistics Bikash Debbarma said this while inaugurating the Statistics Day on the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis the father of modern statistics.

In the event, the statistics minister also said that the statistics department lnitiatives have been taken to modernize. New office building is being constructed. Currently there are offices of Statistics Department in 4 districts of the state. Statistics office will be opened in other districts as well. He said that the country still remembers with respect the visionary planning approach of eminent scientist and Padma awardee Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalanweesh. This year the theme of Statistics Day is ‘Use of Data for Decision Making’.
