The legendary track and field athlete Pilavullakandi Thekkeraparambil Usha (P.T. Usha) is about to take up a new position as the President of the India Olympic Association. P.T. Usha will also soon become the Indian Olympic Association’s First Female President in addition to this.

Usha was the only candidate to file her nomination for the president’s post on Sunday. The election to the IOA executive council is scheduled to be held on December 10 but with the nominations closing on Sunday, she is set to take over one of the most powerful positions in Indian sport.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju tweeted and congratulated her that ‘Congratulations to legendary Golden Girl, Smt. P T Usha on being elected as the President of the Indian Olympic Association. I also congratulate all the sporting heroes of our country on becoming the office bearers of the prestigious IOA! The nation is proud of them !’
 
 The 58-year-old Usha, a multiple Asian Games gold medalist and a fourth-place finisher in the 1984 Olympics 400m hurdles final, filed her nomination papers for the top job on Sunday, along with 14 others from her team for the various posts .
