In its highly anticipated Spring Update event on Monday, OpenAI unveiled many new products, including a flagship-level artificial intelligence (AI) model called GPT-4o, a new desktop software for ChatGPT, and minor UI updates to the online client.
The event was held in front of a small live crowd and was broadcast live on YouTube. The AI company was also revealed at the event.
OpenAI Chief Technical Officer Mira Murati opened the event by introducing the updated ChatGPT desktop program, which now has computer vision and can view the user’s screen. Users will have the option to enable or disable this feature, after which the AI will examine and help with whatever is displayed. The CTO also disclosed information regarding a UI update being made to ChatGPT’s web version. Upon accessing the website, users will notice recommendation cards as part of the new UI’s simple design. Additionally, the side panel is hidden by the smaller icons, freeing up more screen real estate for discussions. Notably, ChatGPT can now deliver real-time search results and access online browsers.
Features of GPT-4o :
The company’s newest flagship-grade AI model, GPT-4o—the ‘o’ standing for omni-model—was the primary draw of the OpenAI event. Murati emphasized that in comparison to the GPT-4 Turbo model, the new chatbot is five times faster, 50% less expensive, and has twice as high rate limitations.
OpenAI’s GPT-4o AI model has improved response latency and can generate real-time responses in speech mode. It can converse in real-time and respond to users, interrupting for different questions. The biggest enhancement is the inclusion of emotive voices, making ChatGPT sound more human and reacting to human emotions.
OpenAI has improved its computer vision, enabling it to process and respond to live video feeds, provide step-by-step guidance, correct mistakes in real-time, analyse large coding data, and detect emotions. The ChatGPT, powered by the latest AI model, can perform live voice translations and speak multiple languages. The GPT-4o model will be available as an API in the coming weeks.
GPT-4 is currently free to download. In addition to all the recent releases, OpenAI has made the GPT-4 AI model and all its capabilities freely available. Users of the platform’s free tier will have free access to features like GPTs—mini chatbots created for particular use cases—GPT Store, the Memory feature, which allows the AI to remember the user and particular information about them for subsequent conversations, and its sophisticated data analytics.
