STATE : Many students are now studying at Open University. Open University can play an important role for those who want to be educated in various vocational education.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha undertook the discussion on Mata Tripurasundari Open University, Tripura Bill 2024 (The Tripura Bill No. 15 of 2023).

Additionally, he mentioned that in many states in India, like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Odisha, and Bihar, students are studying at the Open University.

Chief Minister said that this is not new in a country like India. An organization has proposed to establish an Open University in our state. If they start this university in the state, not only the students of the state but also the students from outside the state will be able to study in it. Those who cannot study in college for various reasons can also take a degree from the university online.

Chief Minister conveyed that the Bill also provides for the university to be governed by the UGC and other regulatory authorities. The university shall have a Governing Body at the highest level.

If necessary, the State Government can impose control over this university. Under special circumstances, the state government can also take steps to revoke the approval of the Open University by talking to the UGC, CM Dr. Manik Saha added.
