Currently, more than 1,666,000 people use power in Agartala Electrical Circle-1. The daily need for power in every home in Agartala, the capital, is rising.
The majority of consumers are reportedly using more electricity than is allowed without the power company’s consent, according to the TSECL.
Due to the severe heat waves plaguing the nation and its states, there has been a marked rise in demand for power during this period, placing additional strain on electrical components such as transformers and cables. As a result, everyday occurrences include fuse wire burning, melting of lugs (thimbles), and burning of high- and low-conduction jumpers. These factors increase the risk of electrical mishaps, fatalities, and property damage.
Vidyut Nigam has asked the electricity users in Agartala to refrain from using more electricity than is allowed in order to prevent this kind of disaster. Specifically, avoid using air conditioners, microwaves, washing machines, and other appliances without notifying the authorities of the electricity company. Those who wish to utilize these in the upcoming seven (seven) days should get in touch with the corporation’s closest office to request permission to consume more electricity.
If this warning is not fulfilled, the Vidyut Nigam’s vigilance squad may search the houses of these power users per Sections 163 and 126 of the Indian Power Act 2003.
Additionally, the power company has asked customers to avoid using some electrical appliances during peak hours, which are after nightfall, such as washing machines, pumps, microwaves, etc. However, Vidyut Nigam’s warning made no mention of the hundreds of smart city lights that are needlessly left on throughout the day and night in the capital’s streets.
Furthermore, the issue of Vidyut Nigam collecting full payment from power users in numerous locations without offering the bare minimum of electrical supply remains unanswered.Furthermore, the normal production and services of numerous power-dependent industries in the state are being interrupted by the inadequate and irregular power supply; nonetheless, the officials of the power company have always remained silent on these issues. The Electricity Corporation issued a new fatwa for obtaining new permission to run AC freezers for the consumers, instead of increasing the supply of electricity and taking practical steps to provide electricity services to the consumers properly, to collect extra money from the common consumers.
