NATIONAL: In a significant development concerning the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate (UG) 2024, the Centre has informed the Supreme Court of its decision to cancel the results of 1,563 candidates who were initially awarded grace marks. This move comes after a thorough review of the examination process and the subsequent discovery of discrepancies in the awarding of grace marks.

The issue surfaced when the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET-UG examination, identified anomalies in the allocation of grace marks to certain candidates. The Supreme Court was apprised of the situation, leading to a proposal for re-examination for the affected candidates.

The cancellation of the results has far-reaching implications for the candidates involved. The Centre has proposed a re-examination, likely to be held on June 23, providing an opportunity for these candidates to reattempt the examination. Those who opt not to reappear will have their scores recalculated without the grace marks, which will be considered their final score for NEET-UG 2024.

The Supreme Court has allowed the NTA to conduct the re-test and has closed the issue about grace marks or compensatory marks awarded in NEET UG. The court has reiterated that it is not inclined to stay the conduct of the counseling for UG medical seats, as any decision taken during the counseling can be reversed if necessary.
