Zurich: India’s star javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is gearing up for a high-voltage showdown at the Diamond League (DL) Final 2025, where he will face a world-class field of competitors, including Anderson Peters and Julian Weber. The men’s javelin final is scheduled for Thursday in Zurich.
Chopra, who clinched the DL trophy in 2022 before finishing runner-up in 2023 and 2024, enters this year’s finale after qualifying in fourth place. The reigning world champion competed in two of the four qualifying legs, highlighted by his record-breaking 90.23m throw in Doha — his first-ever breach of the coveted 90m mark. Despite the milestone, he finished second behind Germany’s Weber. He bounced back in June to win the Paris leg with a best of 88.16m.
The 27-year-old has had an impressive season overall, with six competitive outings, four titles, and two runner-up finishes. His most recent performance came at the NC Classic in Bengaluru on July 5, where he won with a throw of 86.18m.
Chopra will be joined in Zurich by defending champion Peters, Weber, Keshorn Walcott, Andrian Mardare, Julius Yego, and Swiss athlete Simon Wieland, who qualified as the host nation’s entry.
Beyond Zurich, Chopra is also preparing to defend his world title at the World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled from September 13 to 21.
The Diamond League, one of athletics’ most prestigious global series, concludes with its Final — a winner-takes-all event across 32 disciplines. Each champion earns the iconic Diamond Trophy, a wild card entry to the World Championships, and prize money, with USD 30,000 for the winner, USD 12,000 for second place, and USD 7,000 for third.
