Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik on Wednesday resigned from the MLA post. She had recently won from the Dhanpur constituency in the assembly election.

She handed over her resignation letter to the new Pro-tem Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Bijoy Bhushan Das.

After her resignation, she tweeted in a series, “In 2023, with the blessings of the central leadership, I get an opportunity to contest the assembly elections again, that too in my Dhanpur constituency. You have blessed me with both hands in Dhanpur like in other Assembly of Tripura. Dhanpur residents some love me as an aunt, some as a daughter”.

As per the Indian Constitution, a person cannot continue as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) or Member of Parliament (MP). If he or she has been elected to both seats, then they have to resign as per the choice within 14 days.
