Train connectivity to Tripura has been severely disrupted following a landslide near New Haflong in Assam, which forced the suspension of rail traffic on the Lumding–Badarpur hill section. The landslide was triggered by road repair works being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), leading to debris and boulders falling onto the railway track.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reported that the combination of an unstable slope and water runoff from nearby roads posed significant safety risks, prompting an immediate halt to all train movements in the affected section. NFR has requested NHAI to urgently deploy machinery and manpower to carry out protective and restoration work.
As a result, several Tripura-bound trains have been short-terminated. The 12501 Kolkata–Agartala Garib Rath Express and 12519 Lokmanya Tilak–Agartala Express, both scheduled for 22 June, were stopped at Guwahati, while the 20501 Agartala–Anand Vihar Tejas Express of 23 Jun, was terminated at Badarpur.
In addition to these disruptions, multiple trains have been either cancelled or rescheduled. Among them, the Silchar–New Delhi Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express will now depart at 6:00 a.m. on June 24, instead of its original schedule.
Restoration work is ongoing, but services will only resume once the affected track section receives safety clearance. Passengers are advised to stay updated through official railway announcements and check for revised schedules before planning their travel.
