On Friday, Bharatiya Janata Party’s legislator Biswa Bandhu Sen was elected as the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. On the First session of the 13th Legislative Assembly, the election for the post of Speaker was held today.
MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen defeated the opposition’s joint CPIM-Congress candidate MLA Gopal Chandra Roy. Out of 42, Biswa Bandhu Sen secured 32 votes, while Gopal Roy bagged 14 votes.
The other second largest party in the Tripura Assembly, Tipra Motha Party which has 13 legislators on their hands, surprisingly walked out citing improper seating arrangements and abstained from voting.
Meanwhile, MLA from Tipra Motha Party Animesh Debbarma was chosen as the leader of the opposition in the State legislature.
