Ludhiana – In a disturbing reminder of the chilling Meerut murder case, Ludhiana police have uncovered the decomposed body of a man hidden inside a blue plastic drum, triggering shock and fear in the area.
The grim discovery was made after residents complained of a foul smell, prompting police to investigate a suspicious drum lying in the locality. On opening it, they found the body wrapped in a plastic sack, with the neck and legs tied tightly with a rope—a clear sign of foul play.
According to SHO Gangandeep Kaur, who is leading the investigation, the victim appears to be a migrant worker, judging by facial features. The body’s advanced decomposition has made identifying injuries or confirming identity difficult. “There are no clear external injury marks for now. A post-mortem will give us more clarity on the cause of death,” she told India Today TV.
Murder May Have Been Pre-Planned
Investigators suspect the murder was premeditated. The plastic drum appears to be brand new, raising suspicions that it may have been purchased specifically to dispose of the body. The police are tracking sales of such drums across Ludhiana and have already questioned 42 drum manufacturing units.
CCTV & Migrant Labour Under Scanner
The police are examining CCTV footage across a five-kilometer radius, focusing on transit hubs like bus depots, railway stations, and industrial corridors. Suspicious vehicle registrations are also under scrutiny. Additionally, several migrant labourers living nearby have been questioned as a precaution, as authorities piece together a possible motive.
While the identity of the deceased remains unknown, police are not ruling out any angle—personal enmity, debt-related conflict, or links to organised crime.
The city remains on edge as officials await the post-mortem report, which is expected to shed more light on this macabre mystery that has once again stirred fears about rising violent crimes in urban India.
