NATIONAL: Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Women’s Reservation Bill. The house has given its nod to the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill seeking to provide one-third reservation to reserve one-third of the total number of seats in Lok Sabha and State legislative assemblies for women.

Speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla announced that the bill had been passed.

The bill is called “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.” The Bill passed after a division of vote in which 454 MPs voted in favor of the Bill while 2 MPs were against it.

The Bill was introduced on Tuesday on the first day of proceedings of the Lok Sabha in the new Parliament Building.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses delight at the passage of the Constitution (128th Amendment) Bill, 2023, in the Lok Sabha with such phenomenal support.

PM Modi thanked MPs across Party lines who voted in support of the Bill.

On X, he said that the #NariShaktiVandanAdhiniyam is historic legislation that will further boost women’s empowerment and will enable even greater participation for women in the political process.
