
TAWANG, 1 August:Lobsang Chophel, an avid photographer hailing from Tawang district, has clinched the top spot in the ‘Best Tourism Destination Online Competition – 2025’ organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department.
Chophel won the award for his stunning portrayal of Jethang Valley in Mago, a little-known treasure tucked away in the scenic beauty of Tawang. He described Jethang as “a valley of unparalleled charm, where vibrant blooms of primulas cover the landscape from July through late September.” The valley also serves as a seasonal home to the Brokpas, traditional yak herders who bring a unique cultural essence to the region.
Overjoyed by the recognition, Chophel shared, “Photography has always been a passion of mine, starting from my school days. I never imagined it would take me this far. Winning this award has truly inspired me to keep pursuing my passion.”
Chophel has made a name for himself documenting Arunachal’s rich landscapes, cultures, religious practices, and festivals. His work has been widely appreciated, resonating with people both locally and beyond the state.
The Tourism Department shared that the competition attracted participants from across India, each highlighting their favorite destinations in Arunachal Pradesh. Submissions were judged based on creativity, storytelling, variety of locations, and online engagement. Out of hundreds of compelling entries, Chophel’s stood out for his captivating visual and narrative about Jethang-Mago.
As the grand prize winner, Chophel will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Arunachal Pradesh for himself and a guest, complete with guided tours. Ram Kumar from Delhi was named runner-up for his depiction of Ziro in the Lower Subansiri district. He has been awarded exclusive travel perks and gift hampers from Arunachal Pradesh Tourism and its partners.
The contest not only celebrated individual talent but also served as a vibrant showcase of the unexplored beauty and cultural richness of Arunachal Pradesh.
