STATE : The traditional Kharchi festival and fair will start on July 14 on the premises of the Fourteenth Devata Temple. The festival and fair will end on July 20. Chief Minister Manik Saha will inaugurate the Kharchi festival at 11:30 am on July 14. The theme of this year’s Kharchi festival is ‘Green is the future’. Chairman of Kharchi Festival and Fair Committee and MLA Ratan Chakraborty said this in a press conference at the old Agartala block office today. Biswajit Sheel, chairman of the old Agartala Panchayat Samiti, was present at the press conference.

In the press conference, the chairman of the festival and fair committee said that about 15,000 saplings of different trees will be distributed among the visitors and pilgrims at this year’s Kharchi festival. This initiative has been taken to create awareness of environmental protection.

The chairman also said that members of Scouts and Guides will be present along with TSR jawans to maintain law and order during festivals and fairs. During the fair, accommodation and food arrangements will be made by the fair committee for the saints who come to the temple premises. Moreover, on the occasion of the festival and fair, the talented students, sports personalities, and divyangjans of the Khairpur area will be felicitated.
