NATIONAL: In a remarkable feat of endurance and determination, Kaamya Karthikeyan has become the youngest Indian to conquer Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,849 meters. At the tender age of 16, she set a record in India and became the second youngest girl globally to achieve this extraordinary milestone.

Kaamya’s journey to the top of the world began on April 3, accompanied by her father, Commander S Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy. Their shared passion for mountaineering and the dream of reaching the summit of Everest culminated on May 20, when they both stood atop the peak, basking in the glory of their accomplishment.

This young Mumbaikar’s achievement is not just a personal victory but an inspiration to countless others. Kaamya’s success is a testament to her unwavering spirit and the rigorous training that she underwent. It also highlights the role of supportive families in nurturing the dreams of the youth.

Kaamya’s ascent to Everest is part of a larger quest – the ‘7 Summits Challenge,’ which involves scaling the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. Having already conquered the highest peaks on six continents, her next expedition is set for Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December 4. If she succeeds, she will be the youngest girl to complete this formidable challenge.
