NATIONAL: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterway Sarbananda Sonowal will on Saturday inaugurate India’s first lighthouse festival from the Fort Aguada Lighthouse at Panjim in Goa, according to an official statement.

The statement said that the three-day festival, beginning September 23, will be celebrated across all the lighthouses in the country as part of an effort to transform these historic spots into tourist destinations.

Earlier, Sarbananda Sonowal had launched a campaign called ‘Lighthouse Heritage Tourism’ to transform 75 historic lighthouses into tourist spots.

According to the statement, historic lighthouses are being renovated with adequate facilities.

India’s first-ever Lighthouse Festival will be held at the historic Fort Aguada in Goa from the 23rd to the 25th of September 2023. It would be a three-day gala event in carnival style with local artists, dance troupes, food and culinary stalls, music concerts, and similar activities to attract people to Lighthouses.

The festival also witnesses historians, archaeologists, cultural anthropologists, and many other people with an interest in history, culture, and society participating in intriguing discussions about our marine history during this event.
