In a historic first for the Indian military, two classmates from Sainik School Rewa have ascended to the highest ranks of the Indian Army and Navy simultaneously. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, who studied together in Class 5 during the 1970s, now serve as the Army Chief and Navy Chief, respectively. This remarkable coincidence underscores the lasting impact of their early education and training at the prestigious Sainik School in Madhya Pradesh.
According to a report by ANI, while in Class 5A, Lt Gen Dwivedi held roll number 931 and Admiral Tripathi was roll number 938. Their parallel journeys through the military ranks culminated in their recent appointments as service chiefs, with Admiral Tripathi taking command of the Indian Navy on May 1, and Lt Gen Dwivedi assuming the role of Army Chief on June 30. The close timing of their appointments adds another layer of significance to this unique event in Indian military history.
The Defence Minister’s official spokesperson, A Bharat Bhushan Babu, highlighted this extraordinary achievement on social media, noting the rare honor for Sainik School Rewa. This school has the distinction of nurturing two exceptional students who, fifty years later, would lead the Indian Army and Navy. This historic milestone not only celebrates their individual accomplishments but also underscores the importance of their early education in shaping their illustrious careers.
