The exceedingly complex and delicate Cochlear Implant Surgery was once again successfully completed by nose, ear, and throat specialists at the GBP Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

A child named Pratiksha Sarkar of Camper Bazar area Agartala was born deaf and dumb. Nose, Ear, and Throat specialist doctors at AGMC & GBP Hospital, Agartala, decided to perform the surgery on the child on April 1 after conducting ancillary tests.

In this surgery, doctors implant highly sophisticated electronic devices inside the skull, very close to the brain. Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital provides this implant completely free of cost by ADIP of the Government of India. The cost of this implant is around 6 lakh rupees.

Mentor surgeons in the surgical team were Nose, Ear, and Throat Surgeon Professor Dr. Amitabh Roy Chowdhury and Head of the Department of Nose, Ear, and Throat Professor Dr. Biplab Nath. Anesthesiologist was Dr. Anupam Chakraborty. Also, other health workers, including OT staff nurses participated in the surgery.

The child is currently healthy and normal after surgery. The Cochlear Implant Clinic facility is available every Friday in ENT Department at AGMC & GBP Hospital. The concerned are requested to take this benefit. The director of the health department informed this news in a press release.
