Lima: Camino Minerals has announced the discovery of a promising new mineralised zone at its Los Chapitos project in southern Peru, strengthening the site’s reputation as a district with significant copper potential.
The latest round of trenching revealed a copper-rich zone in the Mirador area along the Diva trend, where mineralisation is closely associated with silver and the copper sulfide mineral bornite.
Why It Matters
Bornite, a copper-iron sulfide often present in some of the world’s highest-grade copper deposits, has raised optimism about the quality of the find. Camino Minerals noted that the new zone builds upon previous discoveries at Los Chapitos, highlighting the project’s continued ability to generate high-value targets.
Strategic Significance
With global demand for copper surging due to its central role in electrification and renewable energy technologies, fresh discoveries like this one could play a key role in strengthening Peru’s standing as one of the world’s leading copper producers.
Camino Minerals has indicated that further exploration and drilling will follow better to define the scale and grade of the Mirador zone.
The find underscores both the geological potential of Los Chapitos and the growing importance of Peru’s central Andes in meeting global copper needs.
