STATE: Veteran people’s leader Surajit Datta, fondly known as ‘Sunu Datta,’ has been tributed lastly by his colleagues of the Legislative Assembly and near ones on Thursday.
Former Minister & MLA Surjit Datta passed away last night at a private hospital in Kolkata after suffering from prolonged illness. His mortal remains were flown to Agartala on Thursday morning.
After that, the MLA’s mortal remains were brought to the Tripura Legislative Assembly, and Governor Indrasena Ready Nallu paid homage to Datta there. Similarly, Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen along with other members paid respect to MLA Datta.
Seven-time MLA Datta’s mortal remain was brought to the Secretariat from MBB Airport where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha paid a floral tribute by placing a wreath. Later on, other Ministers, MLAs, Secretaries, and officials of the State Administration paid tribute to Surajit Datta.
Meanwhile, the State Government announced a state mourning day on Thursday.
Datta first contested the Ramnagar Assembly seat in 1988 and won, becoming a minister in the Sudhir Ranjan Majumder-led Congress-TUJS government.
