First Phase Tickets Nearly Sold Out for Kolkata Derby; Tripura Multiplex to Screen Match Live

Kolkata/Agartala, July 20: The first phase of ticket sales for the highly anticipated domestic league Kolkata Derby was launched on Saturday through a dedicated mobile application, and tickets are already close to being sold out.

Seats in Blocks B, C, and A—reserved for Mohun Bagan fans—have been completely booked. A few tickets remain for the East Bengal section, located in Block A behind the goalposts. The Indian Football Association (IFA) expects these remaining tickets to sell out soon as well.

Due to security regulations, only 10,000 spectators will be allowed inside Kalyani Stadium for the derby. Tickets are priced at ₹150. Once the first phase sells out, IFA will notify the local police before releasing the next batch.

“We’re nearly sold out in the first phase,” said IFA Secretary Anirban Dutta. “After police approval, we aim to release the second phase of tickets, likely by Monday.”

In a unique move to extend the derby’s excitement beyond Bengal, SSR Cinemas in Agartala, Tripura, will screen the match live on the big screen—a first for a domestic league derby. This initiative, in collaboration with the SSEN App (which holds streaming rights), aims to bring the magic of the derby to fans outside Bengal.

The screening will take place at SSR Cinema, ML Plaza, on Mantribari Road in Agartala. Football enthusiasts can enjoy the match at ticket prices of just ₹50, ₹100, and ₹150—significantly lower than standard film ticket rates at multiplexes.

“This is a promotional effort, not a commercial venture—for now,” said SSR Cinemas director Shatdeep Saha. “We want to give football fans a unique cinematic experience. If the response is strong, we may consider showing more matches in additional halls.”

Adding to the excitement, former Indian football stars Alvito D’Cunha and Rahim Nabi will be flown in from Kolkata to Agartala to grace the event and interact with fans.

With derby fever gripping fans across the country, this innovative screening in Tripura is set to amplify the reach of one of Indian football’s most iconic rivalries.
