Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Becomes Fastest Film to Cross ¥10 Billion in Japan

Tokyo, July 29 — The latest installment in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise has shattered box office records, becoming the fastest film in Japanese history to surpass 10 billion yen (approximately $67 million). The movie reached this milestone just eight days after its release on July 18, setting a new benchmark in the nation’s cinematic history.

The previous record-holder was none other than Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which achieved the same feat in 10 days back in 2020. The latest accomplishment was confirmed by Kogyo Tsushinsha, a leading Japanese box office tracker, on Monday.

The film’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) thanked fans and theatre staff alike, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the fans who watched the film and to the cinema teams who brought this experience to audiences across Japan.”

Based on the best-selling manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer has become a global pop culture sensation, with over 200 million copies of the manga sold worldwide, according to publisher Shueisha. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted young warrior on a perilous mission to cure his demon-transformed sister while fighting powerful supernatural enemies.

Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump (2016–2020), the franchise has drawn comparisons to legendary anime titles such as Naruto, Dragon Ball, and One Piece, now firmly securing its place among Japan’s most iconic media exports.
