Coromandel Express meets with an accident after hitting a goods train near Bahanaga Station in Balasore. Several boggies of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express are reported to have derailed after it collided with a goods train.

Several people are feared injured and trapped in the incident. The rescue teams have been mobilized.

According to media reports, the injured passengers are being shifted to nearby hospitals. A search and rescue operation is currently underway. More details are awaited.

“At around 7 pm, 10-12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Baleswar and fell on the opposite track. After some time, another train from Yeswanthpur to Howrah dashed into those derailed coaches resulting in the derailment of its 3-4 coaches”: Railway Spokesperson Amitabh Sharma

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the rail accident in Odisha. PM Modi spoke to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and took stock of the situation.
