AGARTALA : The current government has initiated efforts to promote the state’s tourism on a global scale. The organization of the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest aims to further advance this initiative. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha made these remarks while inaugurating the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024 at Narikelkunja in the Gandatwisa subdivision of the Dhalai district on Tuesday afternoon.

During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that the rich traditional culture of the state will be showcased through such festivals, making tourism in Tripura more appealing to visitors. On the same day, he also inaugurated a newly constructed suspension bridge over the Dumboor Reservoir. Additionally, Dr Saha presented registration certificates to nine private entrepreneurs involved in the Home Star initiative established in various locations within Narikelkunja.

It is noteworthy that this is the first time the state is organizing a tourism promo fest under the initiative of the Tripura Government Tourism Department. The festivals will feature food events showcasing tribal cuisine, along with displays of traditional musical instruments and costumes from the state. Renowned music artist Shreya Ghoshal is set to participate in the festival on December 14.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha stated that initiatives had been undertaken not only to create employment opportunities in the tourism sector but also to boost the state’s GDP. In Narikelkunja, seven private guesthouses have been inaugurated, and ten Loghats have been constructed under the Swadesh Darshan project to promote tourism, which will be launched soon. To date, a total of 51 Loghats have been built in the state under this project. The Chief Minister also mentioned that the state government prioritizes infrastructure development as part of the overall state advancement and noted that many demands made by the MLAs have been addressed.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury commented on the occasion that tourism is a key avenue for the economic development of the state. Various initiatives are being undertaken to enhance tourism and improve infrastructure. Additionally, a development plan for the 51 Peeth tourist centre in Banduar, Udaipur, is underway, along with efforts to make tourist centres such as Chabimura, Dumboor, Neermahal, Unakoti, and Jampui Hill more attractive.
