On Tuesday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha had a review meeting on the law and order situation in the state with the police officers at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala.
The meeting was attended by DGP Amitabh Ranjan, additional DGP Sourav Tripathi, IGP R.G. K. Rao, DIG Manchak Ippar, district and sub-division level police officers, OCs, and other police officials of the state.
After the review meeting, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, at a press meeting, informed that the Government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards smuggling and use of drugs to build a drug-free Tripura. Stern measures are being taken against people involved in the drug trade.
In today’s meeting, police officials were given the necessary directions regarding this.
The Chief Minister said the police administration has been instructed to suppress the cut money and syndicate system. He said Rohingyas are illegally entering the country by making Tripura a corridor. So, the police have been instructed to keep strict vigilance.
At the same time to prevent cow smuggling in border areas, concerned police stations have been advised to work in coordination with the local BSF. The issue of the traffic system also came for discussion in the meeting, informed the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister also said the state police is going to celebrate its 150th anniversary, which is a matter of pride. On this occasion, the achievements of the police will be upheld before the public through various programs.
He said the matter of equipping every police station with the latest technology and controlling cybercrime was also discussed in the meeting. By September this year, a cyber police station will be opened in the state. It was also informed that Tripura’s crime rate is far below that of other states.
The Chief Minister added that it was emphasized in the meeting that it has to be ensured that people approach the police for any issue they face. Meanwhile, many promotions have been implemented in the state police administration.
At the same time, the government will take measures to fill up the vacant posts in the police. Police’s PRAYAS initiative to spread awareness regarding the prevention of child marriage also came up for discussion.
The chief minister said the law and order situation in the state is far better now. He advised the police officials to keep this trend intact in the coming days as well. The last Assembly election was conducted peacefully, and the state police share the credit for that.
At the beginning of the meeting, DGP Amitabh Ranjan said the law and order situation in the state has improved a lot. A special drive has been launched to prevent illegal penetration of Rohingyas and many people have been arrested consequently.
As part of the Nesha Mukta Tripura drive, a huge number of intoxicants have been seized. In the meeting chief minister unveiled a logo in connection with the 150th anniversary of the state police.
