The creation of a dedicated trust to oversee the 14-deity temple at Khayerpur, located in West Tripura’s Old Agartala RD Block, has been proposed to the Tripura government.
The temple holds a week-long Kharchi Puja every year, which attracts thousands of worshippers and is regarded as the second-largest event in the state after Durga Puja. Ratan Chakraborty, the Khayerpur MLA and chair of the Kharchi Puja organising committee have affirmed the suggestion and stated that plans are underway to turn the location into a significant religious tourism destination, similar to the Tripura Sundari Temple.
Following a meeting to prepare for this year’s celebration, Chakraborty announced that Kharchi Puja will start on July 3. The ceremony will be attended by Agartala Mayor Deepak Majumdar, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. On the last day, July 9, Biplab Kumar Deb, a former Chief minister and current member of parliament, and Rajib Bhattacharjee, a member of the Rajya Sabha, are anticipated.
Forms for stall allocation will cost Rs 100 and be available starting from June 15. Gambling, using plastic, and abusing drugs will be prohibited throughout the festival. Food Safety Vans will be sent out along with special transportation arrangements to facilitate public access. The theme for this year is “Operation Sindoor.”
