Bangkok, Thailand: Bringing immense pride to India, Hillong Yajik from Arunachal Pradesh secured a gold medal at the 57th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship 2025, held in Bangkok.
The 25-year-old athlete triumphed in the Women’s Model Physique (Up to 160 cm) category, showcasing outstanding strength, discipline, and determination. Her victory stands out as a milestone, particularly for Northeast India, where women athletes in physique sports are still breaking new ground.
Hailing from the Kurung Kumey district, Yajik has become a trailblazer in bodybuilding. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated her on social media, praising her achievement as a source of pride for the state and the nation.
This victory follows her historic performance earlier in 2025 at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Thimphu, Bhutan, where she became the first female athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win an international gold in the Women’s Model Physique (up to 155 cm) category, along with a silver and a bronze.
A master’s degree holder in political science, Yajik balances her life as a fitness trainer and dance instructor while excelling in a male-dominated sport. Her journey began in 2022 with her debut at the Federation Cup in Gangtok, and she has since risen as an inspiring figure for aspiring athletes across India.
The 57th Asian Championship featured tough competition from athletes across the continent, making Yajik’s gold medal a testament to her relentless training, resilience, and passion for the sport.
