Arunachal to Fast-Track Green Energy Projects: CM Khandu

Itanagar: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday announced that Arunachal Pradesh will fast-track all green energy initiatives, revive stalled projects, and strengthen public-private partnerships to position the state as India’s renewable energy hub.

Addressing the Independence Day gathering at IG Park, Khandu said the state is on a mission to build a “viksit Arunachal” by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence. With vast hydropower reserves and critical minerals like graphite, limestone, and dolomite, Arunachal, he said, is poised to power the future of solar energy, batteries, and electric mobility.

The Chief Minister highlighted major projects, noting that the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydropower Project will be completed by May 2026, while the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project is on track for February 2032. Declaring 2025–2035 as the “Decade of Hydropower,” Khandu announced that new projects worth ₹2 lakh crore, adding 19 GW of capacity, will begin within three years.

“These projects are not just about energy, they are about empowerment,” he said, outlining benefits such as over ₹4,000 crore annually as free power, ₹750 crore for local development, and nearly ₹2,000 crore in dividends to the state. He added that the projects will also create 30,000 direct jobs and boost infrastructure such as roads and schools.
