MAGO (Tawang) — In a stirring display of patriotism at India’s Himalayan frontier, the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps, in collaboration with the Civil Administration led by Assistant Commissioner Thutan Wangchu and Gorkha troops stationed at Chuna, organised a historic ‘Tiranga March’ on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day.
Held at an altitude of 14,000 feet in the forward areas of Chuna, the event featured a 100-meter-long national flag carried by Indian Army soldiers, ITBP personnel, and villagers from Mago and Chuna. Marching shoulder-to-shoulder through the lush green high-altitude fields, participants created a spectacular scene, with the tricolour set against towering Himalayan peaks, evoking powerful emotions of unity and national pride.
Following the march, a cleanliness drive was conducted to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem, in alignment with the District Administration’s ‘No Plastic Zone’ campaign. This eco-conscious initiative underscored the shared responsibility to preserve local biodiversity, flora, and fauna.
The event not only celebrated the spirit of Independence but also highlighted the enduring bond between the Armed Forces and local communities, showcasing their joint commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders while protecting its natural heritage.
