Agartala Railway Station will be upgraded to International standard in the coming days. During the meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has given the proposal about upgradation.
 
The Union Railway Minister has assured cooperation in this regard. Transport Minister said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared by spending an amount of Rs 24 lakh to make Agartala railway station to an international standard and that Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is supervising it. The foundation stone will be laid within the 2-3 months next, likely in the presence of the Union Railway Minister here in Agartala. 
 
Two escalators will be open at Agartala Railway Station and Dharmanagar Railway Station in the state. It will improve passenger service, Transport Minister added.
 
Another proposal of starting the Dharmanagar-Pecharthal-Kailasahar rail link also came to the fore in discussions with the Union Railway Minister. The Union Minister of Railways has directed the concerned officials of the Ministry of Railways to initiate the work of this link project. 50 percent of survey work is already complete in this rail link project; an estimated Rs 1,855 crore will be spent on this project, Minister Chowdhury told the reporters.
 
Besides, he also made proposals to convert the Lumding (Assam)-Sabroom (Tripura) single railway line track to a double line track and expansion of railway connectivity from Belonia (South district) to the zero point of the Indo-Bangla border.
