Mumbai: According to an official, police have detained two vendors after a 19-year-old man died from eating “chicken shawarma” that he had purchased from their shop.
According to the official on Tuesday, the man, named Prathamesh Bhokse, purchased the food item from the accused’s booth in the Trombay area on May 3rd.
Prathamesh Bhokse visited a neighboring municipal hospital on May 4th in order to receive medical attention after experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting.
He became ill once more after getting home, so on May 5th, his family drove him to the city-run KEM Hospital.
He was sent home by a doctor after receiving treatment, according to the Trombay police station officer.
The man was transported back to the hospital the following day as his health worsened, and a medical professional examined him. After the examination, he was admitted this time.
The hospital administration decided to report the incident to the police, who then filed a formal complaint against the unnamed individuals under Indian Penal Code sections 273 (selling of noxious food or drink) and 336 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others), according to the official.
He added that the man passed away on Monday and never fully recovered from his illness.
The official stated that once the two food vendors, Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh, were taken into custody by the police, they were accused of violating several IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
