STATE : The present government is media-friendly and tries to address the issues related to media fraternity, stated the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha this evening at Agartala Press Club after inaugurating the four-day media skill development workshop and laying the foundation stone of a lift there. The Chief Minister said, attacks on the media persons will never be tolerated and various issues of media persons are also addressed sincerely. The government has also taken a proactive attitude in regard to installation of a lift at Agartala Press Club. He said, the media world has changed a lot over the years. There was a time when the readers of the state used to heavily depend on outside newspapers. Now local readers and viewers are showing inclination towards local media as well. A competitive environment is developing among the channels. But at the same time fake news is not desired. Workshop in all professions is an important aspect. Technology is playing a significant role in media now. So he hoped that various challenging issues will be discussed at the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, PWD secretary Kiran Gitte said, media is known as the fourth pillar of democracy. Media plays a crucial role in building society. He also appreciated the role being played by the local media. At the inaugural programme, the President of the National Press Club of India Goutam Lahiri thanked the organisers for this workshop and said, the purview of media has expanded very far now. And for that the conventional media, in true sense, is facing a challenge. Taking note of the surroundings on the way from the airport he said that Agartala city changed a lot and the sign of development is evident here.

President of Agartala Press Club said, today is a day to rejoice for the media persons. He thanked the state government for taking the initiative to install a lift at Agartala Press Club. In his welcome address the ICA secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty said, changes in journalism has been felt worldwide. To enable the media people of the state keep abreast of the changing trend this workshop has been organised. He said, as the media persons are working for the benefit of the society, so the state government is relentlessly working for the welfare of them. He said, an amount of Rs. 78 lakh will be spent on the upcoming lift at Agartala Press Club. Among others present on the occasion were director of ICA Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and secretary of Agartala Press Club Ramakanta De. The Chief Minister handed over mementoes to the noted journalist Goutam Lahiri.
