NORTH-EAST : Dhalai district in Tripura has won the National Water Award 2023 in the Best District Category from the North East Zone. The award was presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

A total of 38 winners, including joint winners across 09 categories, were honored for their outstanding work in water conservation and management. Each winner received a citation, a trophy, and cash prizes in certain categories. The event commenced with the traditional ‘Jal Kalash’ ceremony.

According to a government release, Dhalai has constructed about 740 community recharge structures, 60 ponds, 170 check dams, and 137 water tanks for rainwater harvesting.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha praised Dhalai’s achievement, stating, “It’s a proud moment for all of us that Tripura’s Dhalai district has won the #NationalWaterAward as the Best District in the North East region. This recognition is for the construction of recharge structures, geo-tagging water bodies, and planting over 41 lakh bamboo trees. I wholeheartedly congratulate the people of Dhalai district, the administration, and all concerned for this achievement.”
